What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is surgery that removes fat from selected areas through small incisions. Dr. Khansa uses specialized cannulas to remove targeted fat, with the goal of creating a smoother and more balanced contour.
Liposuction is not a substitute for weight-loss. It is also not designed to remove large amounts of loose skin. If skin laxity is a major concern, Dr. Khansa may discuss whether a skin-removal procedure, such as abdominoplasty, brachioplasty, or thighplasty, should also be performed.
What can Liposuction Improve?
Depending on your anatomy, liposuction may be recommended for:
Localized fullness of the abdomen or waist
Flanks or “love handles”
Hips and outer thighs
Inner thighs
Upper arms
Back or bra-line areas
Submental fullness (neck) under the chin
Other carefully selected areas discussed during consultation
The goal is improved contour and proportion, not a specific number on the scale.
Who is a Good Candidate for Liposuction?
You may be a candidate if you:
Have localized areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise
Are at or near a stable weight
Have enough skin elasticity for the planned contouring approach
Are in generally good health for surgery
Do not smoke, or can follow instructions about stopping nicotine before and after surgery
Are prepared to follow postoperative instructions and attend follow-up visits
Dr. Khansa will review your health history, medications, previous procedures, weight changes, skin quality, and goals.
Liposuction with Other Procedures
Liposuction can be performed alone, or can be combined with another procedure. Combination surgery is useful when you need both fat reduction and skin resection.
Possible combinations may include:
Liposuction with abdominoplasty
Liposuction with thighplasty
Liposuction with brachioplasty
Liposuction as part of a mommy makeover

FAQs
🔍 Is liposuction a weight-loss procedure?
No. Liposuction removes selected localized fat to improve body contour. It is not a substitute for weight-loss.
🔍 Will liposuction tighten loose skin?
Liposuction can improve the contour of localized fat, but it cannot remove a significant amount of loose skin. If skin laxity is a major concern, Dr. Khansa may discuss a skin-removal or body-contouring procedure.
🔍 What areas can be treated with liposuction?
Potential treatment areas include the abdomen, waist, flanks, thighs, arms, back, and the neck under the chin. The appropriate areas depend on your anatomy, skin quality, health, and goals.
🔍 Can liposuction be combined with a tummy tuck?
Absolutely, combining liposuction with tummy tuck may be appropriate for some patients. A tummy tuck removes excess abdominal skin and tightens abdominal muscle separation, while liposuction treats localized fat. Together, they can often achieve a superior result.
🔍 What do liposuction scars look like?
Liposuction requires small access incisions. Their size and location vary by treatment area and technique. Scars often become less noticeable over time but do not disappear completely.
🔍 How long do liposuction results last?
Liposuction permanently removes fat cells from treated areas, but remaining fat cells can enlarge with weight gain. Maintaining a stable weight after liposuction will protect your results.
🔍 How much does liposuction cost in Austin?
Cost depends on the treatment areas, operative time, anesthesia, facility fees, garments, follow-up care, and whether another procedure is performed. Dr. Khansa’s team can provide a personalized estimate after your consultation.
🔍 How do I decrease my risk of complications after liposuction?
There are essential steps you must take to ensure a smooth recovery after liposuction:
Prevent infection and wound healing problems: Do not smoke, or use any form of tobacco, nicotine or vaping for 6 weeks before surgery, until 6 weeks after surgery
Accelerate your recovery: Eat a high protein diet. Drink plenty of fluids
Prevent blood clots: If you are on an oral contraceptive pill that contains estrogen, stop it 6 weeks before surgery and do not restart it until 6 weeks after surgery. You must walk at least 5 times a day, starting on the evening of surgery
Prevent pneumonia: Take deep breaths throughout the day, and cough if you need to
Prescriptions: Take prescription pain medications as instructed. Do not take herbal or homeopathic medications unless approved by Dr. Khansa, as these can cause bleeding and abnormal blood pressure
